Make it to May 1, otherwise you risk being left without money: an important message for recipients of social benefits
Ukraine has changed the conditions for calculating housing benefits for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
From now on, some IDPs will receive benefits for six months longer, and they can also return money for past periods. To take advantage of these opportunities, you must submit an application by May 1, 2026.
According to the new rules, the most vulnerable groups of IDPs will continue to receive benefits for up to six months. The maximum payment period has been increased from four to five six-month periods.
Starting from February 1, 2026, benefits for children among IDPs will be issued without taking into account family income. If you apply before May 1, benefits will be accrued for the entire period retroactively. In the event of a later submission of documents, benefits will be accrued only from the month of application.
From January 1, 2026, due to the increase in the subsistence minimum, those adult displaced persons whose income per person does not exceed UAH 10,380 can again apply for assistance. Such payments will also be assigned for six months with the possibility of extension.
To receive financial support from January 2026, you must submit an application by May 1. Otherwise, the assistance will be accrued only from the date of application, without compensation for previous periods.
Earlier, we reported on payments at the birth of a child and cases when assistance may be canceled. We also reported on the situation with social payments, when the budget is facing a deficit and the poorest may be left without support.
In addition, innovations regarding the payment of the minimum wage to the unemployed and the legal nuances of receiving such assistance were recently discussed.
