Spitting on Putin’s Easter Truce – Thousands of Shellings and Attacks Along the Front
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy published the morning report of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Sirsky, on Sunday, April 20. Despite Russia’s Easter “truce,” the enemy continues offensive actions and shelling along the entire front line.
According to the report, 59 shellings and five assaults by Russian troops were recorded on the front line. One combat clash occurred in the sector of responsibility of the Starobelsk OTU, three in the Donetsk OTU zone (in the Pokrovsky and Novopavlovsk directions), and one more in the Zaporizhia direction, near Stepne. Several cases of the use of FPV drones were also recorded.
In the Kursk region, Russia used artillery and drones to attack Ukrainian positions. Between 18:00 the previous day and 00:00 on April 20, the Ukrainian military recorded 387 shellings, 19 assault operations, and 290 launches of enemy drones.
“Our soldiers always react as the situation on the battlefield requires. Ukraine will continue to respond to the enemy’s actions,” the president stressed.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine would be ready to support the regime of silence if Russia adhered to its conditions. “As of Easter morning, it can be argued that the Russian army is trying to create the impression of a ceasefire but sometimes does not abandon attempts to advance and inflict losses on Ukraine,” he noted.
It is worth noting that on April 19, Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced a 30-hour “Easter truce” from 18:00 to 00:00 on April 21. Ukraine agreed to the ceasefire on the condition of “complete silence” and expressed its readiness to extend it for another 30 days.
However, in the first hours after the announcement of the “truce,” an air raid alert sounded over Kyiv, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded the activity of enemy drones. On the evening of April 19, the enemy attacked a high-rise building in Kherson and shelled the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions, resulting in casualties.
