Pole who helped prepare assassination attempt on Zelenskyy may be sentenced to 8 years in prison

In Poland, a citizen named Pavel K. has been officially charged with aiding in the preparation of an assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He faces up to eight years in prison for this.

According to the Polish prosecutor’s office, the man offered Russian special services assistance in gathering intelligence; specifically, he planned to transfer information about the security of the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport, which Ukrainian high-ranking officials and international partners frequently use.

The suspect’s exposure was made possible thanks to the joint actions of Polish and Ukrainian law enforcement officers. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine provided the Polish side with evidence collected as part of a joint investigation with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

In April 2024, Pavel K. was detained on suspicion of collaborating with Russian military intelligence to organize an assassination attempt on the president. He is currently in custody and has been charged under Article 130 §3 of the Polish Criminal Code, which pertains to actions in favor of foreign intelligence that compromise national security.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that individuals typically initiate such attempts, but states must respond to them decisively.
