Ukrainians risk losing disability benefits: who will have their state benefits canceled?

Ukraine is planning to review state assistance for people with disabilities. Representatives of the Ministry of Health announced this.

Starting April 1, 2024, some citizens with disabilities will need to undergo a re-assessment of their daily functioning. Based on the results of this assessment, their disability status may be confirmed or revoked, which will affect their eligibility for state benefits.

Those men aged 25 to 60 who belong to a second or third disability group and did not undergo an examination between 2022 and 2024 are required to undergo a re-examination by November 1, 2025. Other persons who did not undergo an assessment during martial law must do so by April 1, 2026.

To receive a referral for an assessment, you must contact a family doctor, therapist, or specialized medical specialist. People with disabilities can independently choose a hospital from the list if it is included in the approved medical institutions.

Exempt from re-examination:

Persons who were granted disability in 2025 if the deadline for its review has not yet come;

Citizens with indefinite disability status;

Military personnel and civil defense personnel;

Persons who are in temporarily occupied territories or combat zones;

Patients with severe impairments of body functions.
