Surcharges on electricity bills: reasons why Ukrainians pay for excess kilowatts

Some Ukrainian citizens may find additional charges on their electricity bills. Who exactly and for what reasons will need to pay further amounts was explained on the official Facebook page of “Zakarpattiaoblenergo.”

The electricity tariff in Ukraine will remain unchanged until at least October 31, 2025. However, some consumers may be issued increased bills as early as June.

Consumers who miss the transmission of meter readings for May or do not provide them deliberately risk overpaying for electricity. In such cases, the charge will be made according to a scheme less favorable to the subscriber.

“A 5-day period for the transmission of electricity meter readings will begin on May 30. We remind you of the importance of this.

First of all, this is necessary to pay for the consumed electricity, and not for the average indicators,” the energy industry said in a statement.

To avoid increased payments, consumers will have 5 days – from May 30 to June 3 inclusive, to transfer indicators.

Earlier, it was reported about the situation with electricity outages and tariffs, which caused concern among Ukrainians.

It was also noted that electricity tariffs are artificial and unjustified, which caused indignation among deputies. Managers of water utilities and educational institutions are concerned, as the cost of electricity is increasing almost daily.
