Former head of Lviv Railways suspected of embezzlement of UAH 31 million,

The former head of Lviv Railways disregarded management’s orders, resulting in losses of 31 million hryvnias, according to information from the State Bureau of Investigation.

The State Bureau of Investigation has charged the former head of the regional branch of Lviv Railways of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC. According to the investigation, his actions caused significant financial losses for the company.

During the investigation, it became apparent that the official permitted a private legal entity to utilize its own rolling stock, specifically locomotives, on the general network of Ukrzaliznytsia tracks. This decision contradicted the technical operation rules of railways in Ukraine and directly contradicted the management’s instructions.

As a result of the actions of the former head, Ukrzaliznytsia underpaid freight in the amount of 31.1 million hryvnias, which negatively impacted the state’s financial condition.

Abuse of an official position by a person constitutes a criminal offense, as stipulated in Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which may result in a sentence of imprisonment for a term of up to 6 years.

The Prosecutor General’s Office is conducting procedural actions.

The State Bureau of Investigation also completed an investigation into two service members from the Kyiv region who planned to organize an illegal business of transporting conscripts abroad for money. Both perpetrators were charged under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal transportation of persons across the state border by an organized group). They face 7 to 9 years in prison for their actions. The Kyiv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense of the Central Region is conducting procedural management of this case.
