Генератори та газові пальники можуть загрожувати життю: ДСНС озвучила правила безпеки

Generators and gas burners can be life-threatening: the State Emergency Service has announced safety rules

In Ukraine, due to regular, planned, and unplanned power outages, many people have begun switching to alternative sources of lighting and heating. However, improper use of such devices can lead to numerous fires and cases of carbon monoxide poisoning. Representatives of the rescue services of Zhytomyr and Ivano-Frankivsk regions reported this.

They also emphasized the importance of observing basic safety requirements when operating generators, gas burners, stoves, and electric heaters.

Basic safety rules when using generators and gas burners

The use of fuel appliances in closed rooms is one of the main causes of carbon monoxide poisoning. The State Emergency Service emphasizes certain strict restrictions:

Use outdoors. Generators and gas burners are prohibited from being placed in apartments, entrances, basements, or on balconies.
Safe distance. The equipment should be located at least 6 meters from windows and doors to prevent exhaust gases from entering the room.
Fueling. Additional fuel can be added only after the device has completely cooled down, as there is a risk of ignition.
Safe use of stoves and electric heaters

Rescuers of the Zhytomyr region, in particular in the Zvyahelsky and Berdychiv districts, remind residents of the private sector about the rules for operating stove heating:

Cleaning chimneys. Soot should be removed before the start of the heating season and regularly during its use.
Checking the integrity of the stove. Even small cracks can serve as pathways for carbon monoxide to enter the room.
Refusal of flammable liquids. It is strictly forbidden to use gasoline or solvents for ignition.
Do not overload the network. When connecting electric heaters, do not overload electrical outlets and use several powerful devices at the same time.
Preventive work of rescue services

Similar information events are also held in the western regions of Ukraine. Civil defense teams hold meetings with residents, particularly in the Verkhovyna and Polyanytska territorial communities.

In addition to consultations at the “Points of Indestructibility”, residents are being given information materials prepared in cooperation with UNICEF. Particular attention is paid to children’s safety: parents are asked not to leave children unattended near turned-on devices or melted furnaces.

Rescuers emphasize that following simple precautions during power outages will help protect not only property, but also human lives.
