Grows in every yard: doctors point to a product that helps lower blood cholesterol levels
A healthy diet is crucial for controlling cholesterol levels. According to nutritionists, walnuts are particularly effective in lowering this indicator. This is stated in the publication EatingWell.
A study conducted under the leadership of registered dietitian Lauren Manaker showed that regular consumption of 30-60 grams of walnuts daily for 2 years leads to a decrease in total cholesterol and the concentration of the so-called “bad” cholesterol (LDL) by about 4%.
Certified dietitian Wendy Basilian emphasized that high LDL levels can be dangerous due to the risk of cholesterol deposits forming in the vessels, which, in turn, increases the likelihood of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
In contrast, HDL cholesterol, known as “good”, plays a protective role by helping to remove excess cholesterol from the bloodstream.
“I often compare it to garbage trucks that collect waste and send it for disposal,” Basilian noted.
The specialist also noted that in 1993, scientists at Loma Linda University discovered walnuts’ rich nutritional composition. Since then, numerous studies have confirmed the product’s positive effects on human health.
The researcher emphasized that walnuts’ usefulness lies not only in their individual vitamins and trace elements, but also in their balanced composition, which has a pronounced health effect.
