The light turns on and off without a schedule: what actions to take
In Ukraine, power outages are planned, but sometimes the power can go out or come back without warning.
DTEK explains that such cases are usually caused by two main reasons: malfunctions in the house’s internal electrical networks or emergencies in the external electrical networks.
Problems often arise in internal power supply systems. These can include wiring defects at the entrance, problems with the switchboard, or issues with the equipment downstream of the switchboard. The balance holder – the housing and communal services association or the condominium association – is usually responsible for these networks.
If we are talking about an accident in external power networks, it may involve substations and power supply lines leading to the house. The distribution system operator, such as DTEK, is responsible for their technical conditions. In some cases, parts of the infrastructure may be on the building manager’s balance sheet, which can affect response time.
Energy experts advise that, in the event of a sudden power outage, contact the housing and communal services association or the condominium association first. Representatives of these services must check the internal networks and, if necessary, submit a request to the system operator.
It was previously reported that power problems may worsen, and Ukrainians were urged to prepare supplies of water and food.
Issues regarding the schedules of power outages and the expected timing of changes to those schedules were also considered.
Additionally, it was noted that threats to the power system may arise without the use of drones or missiles, posing new challenges for the population.
