Oschadbank exploits blocked cards: Ukrainians fell into a new trap

State Savings Bank may suspend the operation of its clients’ payment cards as part of financial monitoring, requiring additional documents to confirm the origin of funds. This can create serious inconvenience for many Ukrainians, especially those who are outside the country.

One of the bank’s clients shared his problem on the Ministry of Finance portal. He noted that his card was blocked, despite his VIP client status and regular payments of an increased service fee. The man claims that he has all the necessary documents to confirm the legality of his income, but the bank requires them to be provided in person, so the issue cannot be resolved remotely.

As a result, the client was forced to pay for card maintenance without being able to use his funds or close the account.

The bank’s action is due to the requirements of the legislation governing financial monitoring. Within the framework of these requirements, banks are obliged to check suspicious transactions and may temporarily restrict access to the account until the circumstances are clarified. Clients must confirm the legality of their funds by providing the appropriate documents.

How to find out the reason for blocking

To obtain information about the reasons for blocking, customers can contact the bank’s contact center by calling from the financial number. Bank employees will provide information about possible options for unblocking the card.

In case of minor difficulties, the problem can be resolved remotely. However, if there are serious suspicions, the client must personally visit the branch and provide documents.

For those who are abroad, alternative methods of communication are available – international calls, web calls or instant messengers.

What operations may cause suspicion

Although banks do not always disclose specific criteria for determining suspicious operations, experts identify several typical reasons: expenses that significantly exceed official income, lack of documents to confirm financial activity, the presence of false data or problems with identifying the person conducting the operations.

What happens to the money

Even if the account is blocked or cooperation with the client is terminated, the funds do not disappear. The cardholder has the right to transfer their money to another bank, for this it is necessary to submit an application, as well as provide a passport, identification code and details of a new account.

According to the law, the procedure for transferring funds should not last more than 30 days.
