Charity or political project: why Oles Dovhyi started using social media more actively
Oles Dovgyi’s controversial appearance at a charity event attracted public attention.
Former Kyiv City Council Secretary Oles Dovhyi, who worked during Leonid Chernovetskyi’s term in office, became the subject of critical comments on social media after his speech at a charity event. Users reminded him of his ambiguous political reputation and possible involvement in corruption schemes in just a few hours, particularly in the Kyiv land distribution case.
In particular, his sister received ownership of 4.10 hectares of land in Kozyn, which also raised concerns. Analysts began to study what Dovhyi is doing now and why his participation in volunteer actions caused such a sharp reaction among citizens.
Oles Dovgyi, now a member of parliament, attended an event organized by the Ulf Medical Service of the 108th Da Vinci Wolves Battalion. On his Facebook page, he posted a photo with the service head, Alina Mikhailova, and expressed his gratitude to the medics for their work. However, his presence at the event caused a flurry of criticism.
Users on social media noted that Dovgy, as the secretary of the Kyiv City Council, was involved in the massive alienation of land in favor of developers, which caused severe damage to the city. However, many commentators pointed out that associations with such politicians could damage the reputation of volunteers and the military.
In 2007, Dovgyi was accused of organizing a corruption scheme of “land carve-up,” during which land worth about $10 billion was distributed in the city. This makes observers wonder about the appropriateness of such events involving an ambiguous personality.
After 2010, Dovgy actively cooperated with Yanukovych’s political clan. In 2014, he became a member of the Verkhovna Rada, but numerous accusations of bribing voters accompanied his campaign. Residents of cities complained about him during the election campaign, demanding that the vote be invalidated due to multiple violations.
Dovhyi’s family ties also raised some questions. His father, Stanislav Dovhyi, was involved in numerous corruption scandals. Recently, Oles has repeatedly demonstrated his business status by declaring that he has earned over UAH 66 million from the sale of real estate.
At the same time, business traces lead to his sister Oksana Huliayeva, who owns several land plots in elite districts of the Kyiv region. The Dovgyh family’s complex scheme of land assets raises questions about the transparency of their acquisition.
There is an active debate in Ukraine about public figures’ ethics and social status, and many are waiting for answers from Dovgyi and other participants in this story. The public closely monitors politicians’ actions, especially in the context of charitable initiatives and military operations.
