Rising tariffs for garbage collection: how much will Ukrainians pay in May

The Kolomyia community plans to increase tariffs for waste removal and disposal, which will come into effect in 2025. According to information from the Kolomyia City Council, this decision is due to increased fuel costs, equipment depreciation, and other economic factors.

The KP “Polygon Ekologiya” notes that tariffs for collecting, transporting, and processing household waste will increase by 14.9% to 195.72 hryvnias per cubic meter. Disposal cost will also increase by 32.97% to 146.16 hryvnias per cubic meter. However, due to waste compaction, the actual price for household consumers will be 36.54 hryvnias per cubic meter.

Thus, the total cost of services will increase to 232.26 hryvnias per cubic meter of waste, which will increase the cost of living for one person by approximately 55 hryvnias per month or 17.4%.

Several factors justify the tariff increase:

  • a twofold increase in prices for fuel and lubricants;
  • an increase in the environmental tax by 10.6%;
  • inflation at approximately 8.2%;
  • an increase in costs for maintenance and repair of specialized equipment by 60%.

The company notes that the new tariffs will help cover the costs of improving the quality of services, complying with legislative requirements, and increasing comfort for community residents.

At the same time, these changes are a consequence of the economic instability caused by the conflict that has been ongoing since 2014, when the country’s resources were directed to protection and reconstruction.

In addition, it was previously reported that some consumers were exempt from paying for utilities such as heat, water, and garbage collection.
